Local Parenting Magazine Market to Try: Boston Parents Paper

The following market is taken from my ebook "Make Money to Write About Your Kids: Get Published in Parenting and Family Magazines." The ebook contains 285 national, regional, international and online PAYING markets and is available in print or Kindle version here.

BOSTON PARENTS PAPER (locals only)
Norwood, MA – monthly                                              bostonparentspaper.com
Phone: 617-522-1515                                 cheryl.crosby@bostonparentspaper.com
Guidelines: The Boston Parents Paper has no formal guidelines, but generally never works with writers who live outside of our region. Department length pieces should be no more than 1,000 words, while features should be no more than 1,600-1,800 words in most cases. We consider queries, but for the most part we do not accept reprints. We do usually require a Resource List (as a sidebar) at the end of any major department article or feature with books, websites and organizations readers can turn to for more information. We also like sidebars or boxes with bulleted tips offering parents real, actionable steps toward solving a particular problem or dealing with an issue.
Approximate pay: We pay anywhere from $100-4oo.

April's Astonishing 2016 Income Report and Sources #Proofreading #Blogging #Writing

Please check out my post about how I make $2,000 per month from home while also homeschooling my 5 kids, being married, taking kids to activities, and more.

If you'd like to see previous income reports, please head to the right side of the site and click on the category of INCOME REPORTS. Tracking my time and posting it is new, so it only goes back a couple of months, but I am now keeping track of time spent on updating Amazon ebooks and writing new ones because it all counts!

HERE WE GO!

PLEASE do not even get me started on how life-busy I was in March and April and, yes, my income shows it. My oldest son did his Confirmation at our church and I was also a sponsor for our family friend Julia. One of my girls had her First Communion. One of my boys turned 13 and had a party. My oldest started his job refereeing across town so I did a lot of driving. Also, two of my boys started soccer from never playing before and one of my girls started track. Toss in the preapproval process for a possible move, a hernia operation and state testing, and it's a wonder I made a dime!

WHO am I?
I am the homeschooling mom of 5 kids and wife to Aron. I graduated from community college at the age of 28 with a 2-year Associate of Arts general degree. My work background: waitress, hostess, secretary, office manager at various places. I got many opportunities to learn how to proofread but have no formal training in writing, social media or direct sales. I quit my cubicle job in 2001 to stay home with my first son and never went back to work in an office.

WHAT do I do?
I'm a blogger, author of books, writer of regional parenting magazine articles, social media maven, proofreader. I don't do direct sales anymore because it split my focus and I need to concentrate on my creative side

Why I am sharing my income?
I like to show what can be done. I am able to fit in at least 20 working hours per week and usually more while homeschooling my kids, loving on my husband and taking the kids places to have fun (pool, sports, field trips, co-op, playdates, trips, etc.). I am not sharing this to brag or because I think I rock. I am sharing so you know that someone with no English degree can be a writer and a proofreader and make a decent income.

The dollar amounts I show are what I actually RECEIVED in my hot little hand or PayPal account, not what I EARNED because things show up at different times and take different amounts of time to come around. Some months I may have a lot of articles in publications but don't show much income ... that's because checks will often show up later and many at one time.

And here is another gem I put together that is also now in print, Kindle and Kindle Unlimited (which means it's free to "rent"). Thanks for coming by and please sign up for an email subscription if this has been valuable to you in any way! If you have any questions or comments, I'd love to hear them!  Thanks!

My Amazon Kindle and CreateSpace Monthly Income Updated #writingaboutkidsandfamily

I figured I should start sharing my Kindle and print book figures since I am hoping they skyrocket this year and next. I want you to see the changes from month to month and what actions I took. I hope it's an encouraging post for you! I don't post to brag, but to show you that it takes time to build up an audience and income, especially if you are a busy homeschooling mom like myself who can't devote 40 hours a week to writing. I'll make sure to update it monthly, and please leave me a comment if you have any questions!

*I've heard that CreateSpace pays when you hit a certain amount or monthly and that Kindle pays two months later. Please realize these are the figures I RECEIVED during the month noted. So I might have EARNED the money weeks or months earlier but I am keeping track of what I received in my bank account!

Head to my Amazon author page to see my current offerings in print, ebook and Kindle Unlimited options!

Your Written Kindle Books are Like Flowers ... Care for Them! #authormarketing

Yes, I realize most writers just want to write. We don't want to market and sell ourselves and our books. But we can't just write a book and put it out there and HOPE and PRAY someone will buy it. God can't steer a ship that isn't moving ... meaning, pray but also DO SOMETHING :-)

Here are my book offerings so I can practice what I preach and SHARE! You can find all four of them here. Two are also available in print (the cookbook and the writing handbook). Tater Tot is fully updated and improved. Make Money is getting a makeover for the 7th edition that is coming out with a new title as well. The Christmas and Halloween books used to be Fun, Frugal and Green but I have changed the series title to Playful Parenthood. It's all about experimenting and finding what works for your flowers/books! Good luck to you!
